The California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) has launched a two-year initiative to design an Education Specialist California Teaching Performance Assessment (EdSp CalTPA) based on the revised Education Specialist Teaching Performance Expectations (TPEs) it recently approved in August 2018. The success of this initiative is dependent on the broad participation of approved education specialist teacher preparation programs.
The purpose of the pilot study is to have preparation programs try out the recently constructed instructional cycles of the EdSp CalTPA for ECSE with their candidates during their clinical experience by embedding the instructional cycle within a course as part of their programs. Pilot data, including feedback from participating candidates, preparation program faculty, and assessors will be used to further develop the EdSp CalTPA for ECSE.
